Routine & Acute GP Consultations

There are different types of GP appointments depending on what a patient needs.
Some appointments are longer than others such as procedures (smears /minor surgery/coil insertion/removal) or when an individual has multiple or complex issues.
Please tell us the type of appointment, or general nature of the issue, at the time of booking so we can allocate you the correct appointment.

This will also help to keep our clinic schedule running on time.
In general our doctors can deal with 1-2 issues safely in a consultation; if you have multiple issues you would like to discuss please book a double appointment
Examples of different appointments include:
Acute/urgent appointment: an issue that cannot wait for more than a few days, such as a urine infection, new injury or acute infection. We will aim to see these appointments within 24 hours. The doctor will only address the specific urgent issue at an urgent appointment; if you also have other items to discuss you will be asked to make another appointment.
Routine appointment: this appointment is suitable for follow up for an ongoing issue such as blood pressure management; antenatal appointments; chronic mental health problems; contraception management or to discuss results from a test or hospital visit.
Other types of appointment; Blood test, smear test, minor surgery, menopause consultation, coil insertion, vaccination, antenatal care,
chronic disease management appointment
Requesting Your Appointment
Please note a GP surgery receptionist is not simply someone who answers the phone - they are specially trained to help you get the most appropriate treatment as fast as possible. Any information you share with them is confidential.
-
When an appointment is for a specialised procedure please specify when making the appointment
-
Patients with more than one issue to discuss should book a double appointment to ensure that appropriate consultation can take place. Otherwise, patients may be asked to book another appointment at a later date.
-
Urgent cases will be seen within 24 hours where possible but we may not be able to offer a choice of doctor or time.
